Congenital Profound Hearing Loss, Noonan’s Syndrome, and Cochlear Implantation
Michael is a baby boy with a history of premature birth, born at 30 weeks of gestation via C-section due to breach presentation. He is a fraternal twin. His birth weight is 2.4 lb (1,340 g)—normal birth weight is greater than 2,500 g.
Michael had an extended stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU; 3 months) due to low birth weight and respiratory and feeding problems. He required intubation for respiratory support for several days and early placement of a gastrostomy feeding tube. He had multiple respiratory tract infections requiring antibiotics including aminoglycosides.
